How do we get mail from backups taken to the cartridge on a daily basis?

Basicly by creating and running OS-level scripts or you can create OPSCenter report but it's uncertain what exactly you want

Our customer wants to mail the cartridge when writing data with slp.

Still unclear what exactly your customer wants...

Just media id's used every day? 
(e.g. Media Written report)

List of images per media-id that was used?
(There is no command or report to list files/folders on a particular tape.)

As per @Mike_Gavrilov  you can look for built-in reports with the free version of OpsCentre or else create custom reports with OpsCenter Analytics (paid version), or alternatively write your own scripts to extract required info.

There is also Vault add-on option that can track tapes used and email reports.
