Device coniguration Adding linux media server

Hi All,

we have 3 Solaris 10 media servers in our site (7.1), we 'll be adding one more Linux media server after zoning is done at SAN Switch

My Question is with regards to device configuration. What needs to be done there? Do we just select newly added media server from media server list or Select all four media servers. If we just select new media server , what will happen to existing drives mapping with current media servers

Regards

Amit

You could select just the new media server.  But I would select all to ensure nothing accidentally lost on the others.  Just make sure no backups in progress before you commit changes.

in that event, nothing happens to the existing

Hi Amit,

At the time of configuration, You need to select Robot Host along with new media server,
It'll only reset the Device Daemon om Robot host, and won't harm the backups.
Selecting all servers may not required

I agree with Vickie.

Before you run device config wizard, please verify the following:

Drives can be seen with scan command.

These license keys added on new media server:

NBU Enterprise Server or Enterprise Client license
Library based tape drive license
SSO license

Successful forward and reverse name lookup between master and new media server
Port 1556 connectivity in both directions betweem master and media server

Correct bp.conf entries on new media server:
Master server first SERVER entry
Server entry for itself
EMM server entry for the master

Additional SERVER entry in master's bp.conf, followed by restart of NBU on the master.
Verify connectivity with following commands on master:
nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose
nbemmcmd -getemmserver

Verify that new media server is showing up correctly in output of above commands.

Now start device config wizard - select Robot Control host and new media server.
Follow prompts and allow NBU to be restarted on media server by the wizard.

Also Chapter 6 of the Netbackup admin guide (DOC5157) gives the steps from a new media server configuration. Page 316 walks you though the steps.

You will be working with just that one media server unless your shareing storage. In that case you will need to restart the services on all servers involved. As WR mentioned, make sure no backups are running durring that time. You can use nbpemreq -suspend_scheduling for that.
