Different type libraries with one media server

Hi! I have two different type libraries - IBM TS3500 and StorageTek SL3000 with ACSLS v.8 server. I would like to use only one media server (NBU Enterprise 7.5) with both of them. Is that possible?

Can't see why not, you'll just have two TLDCD processes running.

Never tried both on the same media server, but I guess it is possible.

Please always select/mention OS as there are always compatibility considerations as well as the need for LibAttach software on Windows media server connected to ACSLS robot.

Not sure if acsd and tldcd can co-exist.

I would say try it and let us know!

acsd will control ACS robot
tldcd for TLD robot

ltid would need to start up these 2 as well as other acs- and tld-related processes (without getting confused!)

I would ensure all possible Media Manager logging is in place before attempting this.

You're correct. But the concept being , different process controls different robot.

To avoid a fight breaking out ... ;0)

It will work ... - providing compatability requirements etc  are met.

I have even seen issues with 2 ACS robots added to same media server...

All was working fine with one ACS robot. Then another was added for ACSLS robot in 2nd building. Just robot - no tape drives yet.
All of a sudden ltid would not stay up.
Logging revealed that ltid started, acsd and all other daemons/processes were started, then each acs config was checked. NBU found no tape drives in ACS(1) and decided to terminate ltid and all other MM-related processes! So, now even ACS(0) was no longer working!

That is why I say - ensure all possible logging is in place before you start.

See the URL in Martin's signature for logging instructions: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH75805

I have different OS on my media servers (Win2008 with LibAttach, RHEL, Solaris 10 and AIX6/7). And all of them are compatible with both libraries. Actually, my TS3500 is working right now with all of these media servers, and i want to add SL3000 because of lack of capacity on IBM.

See below comments...

Go ahead - add STK ACS robot and tape drives on one media server at a time.
Ensure logging is in place.
Ensure media servers have physical capabilities to stream current and additional tape drives.

Good luck and let us know!

Hmm, fair point Marianne, perhaps I should have said it 'should' work ...

Hi, guys. Sorry for late reply, my laptop passed away.

The bad news is we decided to not use both our libraries with one Media Server.

But here is a good one. I had a message from Symantec Technical Support and they said:

"Regarding your query, Yes you can have 2 different tape libraries attached to one media server."
