Hello Team,
Due to a project requirement ,need the below information to proceed further for configuration
Master Server : RedHat Linux , NB 7.5.0.6v
1) Need to configure backups in such a way that data gets copied to the Disk 1st & then to the tape . Disk Backup & Tape backups should be having different retention period i.e., 1 month & 3 months respectively . One method that I am aware is 'SLP - Storage Life Cycle Policy' . Is there any other method to achive the same ??
2) Manually created users - should have 'restricted access' to the NetBackup Console & installed path (/openv/Netbackup/) . One method is 'NBAC' . DO we have any alternate method to achieve the same .
3) Also client says post backup\Restore ,how to ensure that only specific user is able to access\view the data - They says its very IMP for Audit purpose.
Not sure how to achive this ??
4) How to configure tape ejection list ? How to get it notified to our Group mail id's ?? I do not find any manual to refer the same:(
- vlt_starteject_notify - I am not sure if this is the only option
5) Purpose of configuring SPA (Storage Pool Authoirty) ? & OST (Symantec OpenStorage Technology)
6) Can 'Liveupdate' be configured only master Server & not in Media Server ? Can Client send a request for Live update to the Master ?
Kindly share your inputs for which you belive is accurate. Thanks in Advance

1: I would recommend this method
2: If you can keep the users to the Windows Java GUI you can use the auth.conf file. But once you allow access to the file system you need NBAC.

3: Please clarify
5: From http://www.symantec.com/security_response/glossary/
SPA = The service that manages a storage pool.
OST: The OpenStorage initiative is an exciting innovation that allows NetBackup to take advantage of new features found in enterprise storage devices, including, but not limited to, storage deduplication, replication, and energy efficiency.
6: Live update is policy driven from the master server.

My 2c.
1. SLP. Any other method will need scripting or manual intervention. Please note that Basic Disk cannot be used in SLP.
2. NBAC. Java auth.conf does not provide sufficient granularity.
3. NBAC.
4. You need the NBU Vault agent: NetBackup Vault Administrator's Guide
5. SPA is normally associated with NBU Media Server Deduplication. OST provide plugin to 3rd-party appliances in order to make full use of Appliance features.
NetBackup Deduplication Guide
NetBackup OpenStorage Solutions Guide for Disk
6. Yes. You can configure it from the master and can only be initiated from the master.
