Are you using persistent binding? If not you may want to consider it.

I see following issues -

- with your robotic arm/picker - I suggest to check on SLConsole if there is any error on library, check your bindings, run robtest to confirm the connectivity, confirm sgscan/scan o/p with tpconfig -d o/p

- with drive 3 - I suggest to check with robtest if you have defined the drive correctly, check on SLConsole if tape drive is having any issue.

The drives are going down due to a hardware configuration error on your server.

your having Fabric erorrs and device errors.

turn netbackup off.
then
Try rebooting the library then the FC/SCSI switch then the server, then scan for your devices, now re-add your devices to netbackup "manually" dont use their tool.

Thanks to all who have given sugesstions.  The system was rebooted on 28th Oct and the Tape library was rebooted on 3rd Nov, but still the problem comes intermitently which caused the backup to fail.

Kindly help.

Ok

Where is your robot in this list?  Opps I see it.

Any case

do this
cd to

/usr/openv/volmgr/database

strings robotic_def
strings globDB

Check to see if the DB's info jives with the output above.

if it does not then.

These are you DB for you devices.

They are created by the Netbackup system or by you "manually".  You can search this forum to re-create them .

But before that make sure you Server can see the robot and all the tape drive and that all device files are up to date.

I see that you rebooted the systems.

before you do the stuff at the top, reboot the systems in sequence.
shut all devices down.

server
FC/SCSI bridge
Tape library

All shut down?

Now start tape library, now the Bridge, now the Server.

Do a ioscan or prtconf -v or what ever you use to scan and build devices.

once it done and you sure you can see your robot and tape drives then go through and rebuild the DB's.

It sounds to me like the DB's got hosed a tape drive is bad or the logical posion of you tape drives are incorrect.
