Hi there.
I'm running Netbackup 7.1 on a RHEL 5 and I'm having the error "database system error (220)" when the duplication process runs.
Here's the full log:

This does sound similar to the error as in other versions.
What happens is that bpdbm does not get an update within its hard codes timeout (not one that you can increase)
The only real fix that has been found is to use engineering binaries that increase the timeouts for bpdbm and bpcd.
Odd that this looks to be a tape to tape duplication as you would usually expect GRT to come from disk - or am i reading your log wrong?
I have also found in some cases that reducing the fragment size on images (particularly when de-dupe of any sort is involved) helps (5000MB works well) but in case it is just a tuning matter make sure you are using appropriate SIZE and NUMBER DATA BUFFERS for tape and DISK
Using a GRT Proxy Host (Windows server only) can also help as it can be faster by removing the load from the Exchange Server
Hope this helps

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO50980
Message: database system error
Explanation: The bpdbm process (UNIX and Linux), or the NetBackup Database Manager service (Windows) did not create a directory path for its configuration catalogs. This error is due to a system call failure, which is usually due to a permission problem or an out of space condition.
Recommended Action: Create a debug log directory for bpdbm. Increase the logging level for the diagnostic and debug logs for nbemm.
Retry the operation and check the resulting logs for information.

I've looked for the logs, and I saw some system call errors, I guess, but there's no way to decypher these logs :\

Please post bpdbm and /var/log/messages as attachments.

We need a bpdbm log that matches the period that you posted above.
According to your post, the duplication job started at 09:09 and failed at 10:45.
The log starts at 14:51 and ends at 15:05.

Not sure how relevant it is to this technote http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH143796, but the error looks similar (191 & database system error 220). But the technote is for 7.0.1, might want to check with support if the same applies to 7.1.
Is yours backup a normal filesystem backup (ALL_LCOAL_DRIVES), or Active-Directory GRT?

I saw that too Watsons, but in that case there is a network read failed
error that does not happen here.
As soon as I can I'll send the log files.
Thanks.

Vilhena

Also have the same issue. 7.1.01 duplicating from an AD backup.
I have logged a call with support. Will report back if I get a result.

Hi,
I am having this very issue with the root AD server and a DC.
Any update from Support Mark541?
Cheers.

EEBs are available for this type of error - log a call to get them - i cant see them on the support web site
They replace the bpdbm and bpcd binaries and are for Master, Media and Clients involved

Excellent thank you. I have logged a call just waiting to hear back.
