Duplication or Tape Out Issue

KRISP011

Hi All,

NBU setup has 3 physical servers. 1 “Master-1” and 2 Media severs “Madia-1 & Media-2”. Data flows from Client to Data Domain to Quantum Tape Library. Recently Master server crashed due to hardware problem, which is out of warranty. To restore the backup operation, we had created an VM client exactly as Master server configuration, Catalog recovery completed successfully to the VM client. Changed the robotic control host from “Master-1 to Media-1”. Post changing this configuration robotic operations is working fine and duplicate operation is not happening. In simple I cannot write any data directly to tape. Verified the tape library and everything looks fine. Could someone help me to mitigate this duplication or tape copy issue. Thanks in advance.

Easiest IMHO will be to delete current device config - robot and all tape drives on media servers.
Run Device config wizard, select new robot control host. Run wizard again, select control host and other media server(s).

Check properties of Storage Units - ensure attributes match physical config.

Create small test backup jobs directly to tape STUs to ensure all is good (expire afterwards).

Check STU selection in duplication jobs.

Hi,

please check Marianne recommendation. Also If NBU is older version and Quantum Tape Library is newer, please check version of device mapping and/or install new.  Otherwise, please put here detail information of the error.

In addition to Marianne suggestion of rebuilding devices, you will need to update the storage and SLP as well.

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS
