The 'server to use for backup and restore' must ALWAYS be the master server.
That is where the image dabase exists.
If you see info when you select a media server, something is VERY wrong with your installation. When a restore starts, the master server will send restore instruction to appropriate media server that wrote the backup/duplication copy.
The source client must be the client for which you want to restore data.
Destination: same or other client.
Policy type: the policy type as per the backup policy that performed the backup.

If the backup was done using the fully qualified name, ensure you are using the same naming convention (FQDN) and not the shortname.
If you used the shortname originally ensure that you are using that now.

Recommended action: Check the NetBackup Problems report for clues on why the failure occurred. For detailed troubleshooting information, create a debug log directory for the process that returned this status code. Then retry the operation and check the resulting debug log.

Please give us more info - Which OS on master, media and client?
If W2008 - did you open the GUI with right-click, Run as Administrator?
Please also explain what you mean by 'restore by Vault backup'?
Are you trying to run a restore on a DR master? Or just from a vault duplicate?
The following logs will be needed to troubleshoot:
On master: bprd
On media server: bpbrm and bptm
On client: bpcd and tar
Log folders do not exist by default. You need to create them under the netbackup\logs folder.
NBU on master must be restarted for bprd log to take effect.
If these folder names do not exist, please create them in the logs folder on each of the master, media and client. Restart NBU on the master, then retry the restore.
If possible, take screenshots of the restore steps. Post screenshots and logs as attachments.

If W2008 - did you open the GUI with right-click, Run as Administrator? No, I will try
Please also explain what you mean by 'restore by Vault backup'? because the datas are expired on disk except on tape via vault.
I will check the logs and I take you a feedback after.

Is it the master server? Or as its name is suggesting a media server?

Select the original policy type 'MS-Windows' rather than 'Vault'

Andy: Normal because it's the media server who manage the Vault. If, I select the master server, there is no image.
However, if I selects 'MS windows', I don't have the high retentions (ex: 6 months)
