Thanks a lot,

We have no Media Server dedupe, Because dedupe is going on VTL side.

As I mentioned before , last our decision was perfect. Guest OS was as a client. backup would be on 10gb/s lan to media server.FC activity reached to 700MB/s.

everybody happy)).

You need to install NBU client software on VM and follow steps in NBU for Oracle Guide to perform backups using RMAN.  Config will be exactly the same as any physical Oracle client.

See NBU for Oracle Admin Guide   http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3672

Please double check OS and Oracle versions in OS and database compatibility lists:
Master Compatibility List: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978

Tape devices are not supported on VMware.

See Statement of Support for NetBackup 7.x in a Virtual Environment:   http://http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089

It is a VMware issue, not NBU....

Sorry Marianne for inconvenience..I couldnt find any article from your materials about the tape devices which are not supported in Vmware...  on which page it was mentioned?

And why not supported?

See page 4:

Media Manager (tape storage units)
For details on the supported virtualization technologies, see Table 2.

You will see that VMware is not listed in Table 2.

  • VMware does not provide support for backup tape drives and tape library devices or their functionality on ESX/ESXi hosts.

As a solution I should set the Guest Os on esx as a client..

But there is 2-3 TB data . We should take backup on fc..(as you mentioned the media is not supported)

So any idea??

Upgrade to NBU 7.5.0.6 and use a physical media server as backup host. See 'Statement of Support' doc for list of supported OS'es for backup host. You will see that Linux servers are supported as from 7.5.0.3.

If you have a physical media server as backup host, you can zone datastores to media servers which will enable you to take FC backups using VMware policy type.

The alternative is to move this VM to a physical server.

Thank you Marianne and wr.

As a solution we decided like this.

We will install client on guest os.

take backup on 10Gb/s cable.

We will try, after that i will inform you.

If you have NBU Appliance or Media Server dedupe, you may want to implement client side dedupe.

NBU 7.5 will allow you to select Accelerator as well.
