ESXI 5.5 supported or not?

Hi all,

does Netbackup 7.5.0.6 supports ESXi 5.5 or not?

  • in doc Support for "NetBackup 7.x in virtual environments" I found out that it is not supported, but
  • in doc "NetBackup 7.5 Feature Briefing Application Protection for VMware Virtual Machines" specifies that ASC supports 5.x

what does that mean? I'm a little confused here.

help pelase.

Regards,

You are 100% correct about compatibility:

Let us have another look at http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089 ...

See VMware versions supported in NetBackup 7.x releases in Table 10 on p. 13 & 14

NetBackup release
Range of VMware versions supported
**All versions in the range are supported**
7.5.0.6 with EEB3263410,
7.5.0.7, 7.6 (7.6.0.1)
ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 5.1.
vCenter Server 4.0 to vCenter Server 5.1

So, the answer is no... Version 5.5 is not supported yet.

Alex Davies said the following last year Oct:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/vsphere-55-support#comment-9296251

vSphere 5.5 has arrived too late to be supported by NetBackup 7.6 but we expect to support it with a maintenance within the next 6 months.

PS: Feature briefing docs are not meant to be compatibility docs. They are meant to explain features.

Statement of Support for NetBackup 7.x in a Virtual Environment is the official compatibility doc that gets updated as and when changes take place.

Best to subscribe to Compatibility Guides to get email notification when docs are updated.

There is no official announcement.

Alex Davies' post is about how official you will get it.

My experience has been that Symantec will not share roadmap information in a public forum.

You can get hold of Product Management via your local Symantec SE.
They should be able to give you more accurate info with all the usual disclaimers...
