Enable to mount or load tapes in LTO4 tape drives in quantum scalar i500 tape library

Hi Team,

We are facing an issue currently on 2 LTO4 IBM tape drive in quantum scalar i500 tape library where the drive is not able to mount/load the media.

Situation so far:-

The robot control host was assigned to one of the windows 2008 media server which is down currently due to hardware issue. In order to take the backup on tape we assigned or reconfigured the robot control host to another windows 2008 media server which is up and running. Total there are 4 drives (2 LTO4 and 2 LTO5). Both the LTO4 drives are not operating. Tried Rebooting the library, master server and media server still no luck. Request you to please help to find a solution on this.

Issue has been resolved.

After deleting the assignment's of the device from the EMM database for the media server and reconfiguring it to the active media server all the 4 tape drives are currently working fine.

Please give us more info.

Are you seeing error messages in Job Details? If so, please post the text error message?

Can you confirm that you have correct media for LTO4 drives?
Have you checked that the density for the media matches the density of the tape drives?
(e.g. HCART media and HCART drives)

Have you tried to test tape mounts with robtest?

Hi Mariaane,

Please find my response below.

Can you confirm that you have correct media for LTO4 drives?
Yes the media's are correct for LTO4 drives.

Have you checked that the density for the media matches the density of the tape drives?
(e.g. HCART media and HCART drives)
The density is same for media and tape drives

Have you tried to test tape mounts with robtest?
robtest is working fine with tape mounts. Please find attached screen shot's.

You have not answered this question:

Please help us to understand what exactly the issue is from NBU point of view.

Not able to see any jobs in activity monitor for the affected drive as we are not able to see the media mounted from NBU console.

From NBU the media's are getting mounted or loaded on 2 LTO4 tape drives. Other 2 LTO5 tape drives are working fine.

I still don't understand. Sorry.

With different density drives in the same robot, you should have 2 different Storage Units in NBU.
- One STU for the 2 x LTO4 drives (matching the density of LTO4 drives (e.g. hcart) )
- One STU for the 2 x LTO5 drives (matching the density of LTO5 drives (e.g. hcart2) )
Can you please check and confirm?

When you have confirmed that you have 2 STUs, can you check that you have policies configured for both STUs?
Or that you have a Storage Unit Group (STUG) for the 2 STUs? And policies configured for STUG?

Can you please post output of this command?

bpstulist -g -U
