Error 1603 while installing NBU client

Pierre_J

Hi all,

I am trying to install NetBackup 7.7.3 Client software on several W2012R2 servers.
During install I repeatedly receive 1603 errors about several languages types of MFC100*.DLL being held in use, close that application.

Uninstallation of 'LiveUpdate 3.3 (Symantec Corporation)' which is installed during the install of NBU client does not help.

I am not sure if I can rename/delete all MFC100*.DLL since these are reported to be Windows files as well.

Any help highly appreciated!

1) UAC on Windows 2012 (and R2 too I guess) has tobe disabled via registry and reboot:

2) And are you definitely running "setup.exe" with "Run as administrator?

3) And do *not* use the installation process flow from the installation DVD or from an ISO of the installation DVD.   Instead install, by selecting the "setup.exe" itself and using "Run as administrator".

4) Try logging on to the client as the true "local administrator" and not as a domain admin, and see if you can install then.

The 1603 is bit a generic error, and cannot usually be used to identify true root cause.  So, you may well need to pick through the installer logs, which are quite detailed, and sometimes it isn't immediately obvious where the exact root cause problem is first identified.

This may help you locate the client install logs:

Take some time, scrolling up and down and reading, and you should be able to locate exactly where problems first become apparent.  And googling those fragments/snippets from the log may help you find a solution.
