Error 2074 & Storage units missing

Hello,

I have this issue. The SLP backup jobs are failing with the error 2074, on the windows backups. In the process of trouble shooting I noticed that the storage unit/groups are missing. I can't understand how this happened.

Environment info.
Master server: Solaris 10 - NetBackup version 7.5.0.7
Media Server: Windows 2008 R2 -NetBackup version 7.5.0.7
Media Server: Windows 2008 R2 -NetBackup version 7.5.0.7
Media Server: Solaris 10 - NetBackup version 7.5.0.7

Storage units are on a NetApp via fiber channel on the media servers. I have the storage admins looking at there end.

I not sure what to do here.

I have run some of the commands on this page http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO35836. Most of the errors on the Windows media serers. But I don't really understand what i'm seeing.

Can someone give me a hand?

Update,

My co-worker can see the storage pools. I don't know why I can't I restarted the GUI 3 times and I still can't see them.

Extract from Status Code manual:

NetBackup status code: 2074
Message: Disk volume is down
Explanation: Required disk volume cannot be used because it is in aDOWNstate.
Recommended Action: You may be able to see why the disk volume was put into
a DOWN state by running bperror -disk. Correct the problem, and use
nbdevconfig to return the disk volume to an UP state.

Please show us output of these commands:

bpstulist -g -U

nbdevquery -liststs -U

nbstl -L

All commands in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/

Please also create admin folder under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs.
This will log all admincmd commands/actions such as addition and deletion of STUs.

Update,

It looks like the issue was McAffee anti-virus/ePolicy. It put the required files in quratine. They just updated there system and the exceptions list didn't make it to the new version. We renabled the exceptons list and the backups started working again.

Update,

The error came back agian.

I have uploaded the log from /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/admin from the Master server

I don't see anything unusual in admin log.

I would like to see output of above commands when STUs seem to be missing.

There could be a comms issue between master and media servers.
I see entries like this in admin log:

get_storage_servers: needs to make another call with 12 storage servers

If media servers do not respond to hearbeat requests from EMM, storage servers may be marked as down.

See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70827

My co-worker htinks that the dedup pool is corupted. He is rebuilding it now.

As a work around we are now using basic disk to backup our servers.

Why would he think that?

Any logs or other evidence?

How is he 'rebuilding' the dedupe pool? Hopefully working with Support?

My co-worker and I both opened tickets with Symantec.

They had us reinstall NetBackup on the Windows meadia server.

As for your questions. The crcheck failed.

Update,

I found out why I was not able to see the storage units.

Basically the servers have multiple NICs. The NetBackup Master server is connected to several different networks. I was connecting to the Master server on the wrong interface. Once I connected via the NetBackup VLAN was able to see the storage pools.

I hope this helps someone.
