Error Code 2850 on restore standard policy

Hi Dear all,

I have a success standard backup from a media server, when I try to restore on test server its failed with status code 2850. I think its not failed, its incomplete with gray stop sign in job id! In restore log i see status0  (successful) and after that I have "failed to get status code information(2850). wen I try restore some files randomly some times I have success and some times I have status 2850. 

Media server is windows 2008,

Master server is UNIX,

Policy type standard indicate that source and destination client is UNIX/Linux - correct ?

Cross OS restore is not supported .e.g UNIX/Linux to Windows.

2) Media Server - which Windows 2008 version? Windows 2008 R2 Which NetBackup Server version? NBU 7.5

3) Original backup client name?  OS and version?  NetBackup Client version? I try to backup from media server not any client involve

4) Target restore client name? restore-linux  OS and version? Centos 6  NetBackup Client version? NBU 7.5 Media  Which paths are you attempting to restore? f:\export to /app

See Nicolai's point.  Cross OS restore is not supported, i.e. you can expect any restore between different OS of original backup client and target restore client to fail.  Restore a Windows backup to a Windows client.  Restore a Linux backup to a Linux client.

Hello,

I think info about OS/NBU versions is not relevant for this issue. But you are attempting to restore F:\export file onto /app? So Windows to Linux - then you should not use Standard but MS-Windows policy type for initial backups.

So it seems to be a policy misconfiguration combined with source/target path mismatch. Correct these things and reattempt the restore.

OS and NBU version is always relevant.

Especially here where restore of Windows backup is attempted to Linux client.
Simply not supported.

Windows 'family' backups can be restored to other Windows servers and/or clients.

Unix/Linux backups can be restored to other Unix/Linux servers/clients.

Hi, Thank you all for response,

There is file system backup include .rar files, I try and restore some rar files (without parent directory) on linux restore server and restore was completed but when I select all directories to restore, restore successful but failed to get status code (2850), still you think windows restore server will solve my issue?

You cannot expect Windows directory structure to be created on Linux.

Restore Windows backup to a Windows client.

One more thing - it looks as if the backup of Windows media server (which is also the Client in the backup and restore) was done with Standard Policy type.
Is this correct?

This in itself can cause other problems as the Windows attributes will not be stored in NBU catalog.

As stated in other replies above - Windows Servers/Clients must be backed up using MS-Windows Policy type.

Hi, with all respect, I believe you :)  that' s not what I meant, anyway Yes, Backup from MS-Windows files done with standard policy ( I tried standard backup for file system backup before for win and lin) So, I have to change my policies and try backup windows files with ms-windows policy?

For restore, I will install Windows based test server and will resore files, and inform you about result.
