Hi All,

I need to restore some files from some tapes. First I performed initiate import and it success for all tapes. Then, I performed import images, but failed. Here's the detail:

Odd one that - seems to indicate that the media server you did the phase 1 import on is now working correctly

Which server did the phase 1 and which is trying to do the phase 2? (take a look through the results tab of the catalog to see the full details of the import logs)

Tell us your system details - the log shows mediadrc - is that the one you ran the phase 1 import against?

Where did you run all of this from? (Master, Media, Remote Console?)

Try logging onto the Master server and from a command line just run bpimport with no switches and see if that works

Hi,

FYI, this 1 backup policy has 7 tapes (streaming on 7 drives). I have already performed import phase 1 for all of them before performing phase 2

I run all of this from veritas GUI (on master server, named backupdrc), remotely. Ok, i will try to log onto master server from command line and run bpimport. I let you know the result after that. thanks

I take it by remotely you mean using RDP (or is this Java with a Unix Master?)

If you do it with a remote admin console then sometimes it takes where you are running it from and the source and if the media server used does not know your PC it will not perform the phase 2

Make sure you have bpbrm logs on the Master / Media Server as they may give more information if it fails - also worth checking the admin log on the Master

Hi Mark,

I'm using ssh connection (Unix). I've already performed bpimport, but seems it takes a long time to finish. It's still importing image from all initiate-imported tape.

In mean time, would you mind to explain what bpimport will do? Is it importing phase 2 using script? If yes, how can I perform bpimport for selected tapes only? Thank you

bpimport just says run phase 2 on anything that a phase 1 has run for - as phase 1 imports only last for 7 days it is usually safe to run that

Looks like some of your tapes are encrypted - is that right? (cannot access key)

Did you setup bpbrm logging - if so can you post the logs (as attachments please)

Was there anything in the admin log? - post that too if you wish

There is an odd line it the logs:

Are you sure nothing has chnaged - wondering where it would pick that up from on the dr site/
