Error code 96 even there are active media in the library

 Hi all,

We have an error of status code 96. Even though there active media in the library but it still us the error code 96. What we may do to settle this?

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply, it seems like we having a strange issues here at our customer side. We need to reboot the netbackup appliance (media server) and the tape library a few time untill we have the issue solved. Now the duplication is running again. The action taken other than rebooting the Netbackup appliance and tape library was update the tape drive firmware and run the scan command "rescan-scsi-bus.sh" guide by Veritas support.

hi, ,what version of NBU you are using?

did you checked if you have available tape cartridges in the scratch pool?

There is more criteria than just 'active' media.
Which pool and retention is selected in the policy for status 96 job?

Have you cross-checked this requirement?

Please post output of available_media and tell us which pool and retention.

Hi,

 

Check if the media is available in the required pool, media type and drive types should match for media to be used in the backups.

Hi Marianne,

It seems like our customer are having some issues with one of the their tape library that leading to the error. It happened that they having power outage at their DC and affected this tape library. The drives always showing "down" and even after rebooting the library, it cannot write anything to the tape and giving error code 96.

Status 96 is insufficient media error. Device errors is something else.

If all drives are down, backup will not be attempted. That will give status 800.

So, you clearly have more than one issue that you need to troubleshoot separately.
