Dear All,

I encounter the problem error code 96, i insert the new media, do inventory to see the tape in the library with the slot number, check the policy using the correct volume pool.  Then run the backup job , return the error code 96. May I know the log to check the backup process ?

Thanks,

Logs won't help, all they willl tell you is that you have status 96, and you already know that.

Have a look through this status 96 wizard

I think that wizard is no longer 'public'.
Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

You need to check more things -
the media and STU density - do they match?
the STU robot # - is the tape in correct robot?
Did someone perhaps add hardware expiration on the media id?

Opps, sorry, posted the 'internal' link.

try this

But yes, ultimatly I suspect denisty or robot number issue.

The error code 96 when using SL150 pool , STU and the pool are the same media type.

Regularly backup using the Netbackup volume pool without error at all.  I run the available media, the PP0380 show this tape is active.

May I know what if there is any problem on the configuration ?

Thanks

Please show us output of :
nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid PP0380

From the screenshot, we can see that the media is Assigned.
This means that there are other backups written to this tape (with a specific retention) or it could even be Frozen.

Above command output will tell us.

If there are other backups written to the tape, it means that you can only append more backups with the same retention.
NBU does not mix retentions. This default setting can be changed, but it is NOT recommended for various logical reasons that have been discussed in this forum.

PLEASE do not let us beg for more information....

What is the retention in the Schedule that is failing with status 96?

Media id PP0380 is written with Retention level 3.
I explained in my previous post (well, I tried...) why it is important to check Retention levels.

@Marianne Sorry that

The PP0380 is new media and assign to another volume pool , setup to media with 3 years retention period.  I manual to set the policy to designate use this volume pool.

You said:

The error code 96 when using SL150 pool

Looking at your screenshots, PP0380 is the ONLY tape in SL150 pool. No idea what you mean with :
The PP0380 is ....assign to another volume pool .

NBU will only append more backups to this tape in SL150 pool with 3 year retention in the schedule.

You need to add more tapes to this pool if the failing policy schedule has a different retention.
