Error trying to freeze tape.

Hello.

When trying to freeze a tape I get this error: "FC0278: requested media id is not assigned to this host in the EMM database.Media is not assigned(95)".

There is a screenshot of the error attached.

I tried to look for a solution, but until now I couldn't find anything :\

Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you.

Ricardo Vilhena

You dont have to worry about this tape. If you find it again you can place it in the library and have the barcode reader to scan it.

Once it is physically available we should be able to come to a conclusion. Incase if there are any data available on the tape and when you find them after some time, you will be able to import them.

Anyways its in scratch pool which means it was not used and available for use. Hence you can ignore it until you find the tape

It is pretty much what it says - it is not assigned to a host and has no data on it so does not fulfil the requirements of being frozen

Why do you need to freeze it?

If you just dont want that tape to be used the use "change" and pop it into another Volume Pool

The tape which you are trying to unfreeze might have expired. I dont see the assigned date.

An expiration date that is in the past will prevent the media from being used.

1. Remove the expiration date by updating the volume properties through the GUI as follows:
Go to Media and Device Management | Media | Double Click on <Media ID> | Expiration date | Date
2. Either remove the expiration or change it to another date in the future.
3. Check that the expiration date has been properly modified by running vmquery

/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmquery -m [media id]

Check and let us know the status of it.

run on master & post o/p .....

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/ ./nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid FC0278

Just noticed that this tape is in the scratch pool - there are certain functions - like label, that you cant do on the scratch pool - you need to move (change) it to another pool first

I want to freeze it, because we can't find the tape, it may be lost, bue I don't want to erase in case we find it!

I tried to change the expiration date, but it was selected the "Do not change" option.

I would make a "Lost" volume pool and put it in there - you wont be able to do much with it whilst it is in the scratch pool

Tape is not inside the library also as pointed my Mark its in scratch.

Get the tape inside the library and do an inventory. Then assign it to a volume pool and initiate a backup.

I changed the volume pool, and then tried to freeze it, but no luck, the error is the same:/

As i mentioned initially you cannot freeze a tape that is not assigned to a host and as soon as it went into scratch it was deassigned from any host

You could manually assign it to a host using the vmquery command if you wish but if you have put it into a "Lost Pool" you no longer need to freeze it.
