I have configured the policy as attached images.
Service is running using a domain account which has the required rights on the exchange server.
The same user have a mailbox on the exchange server.
Client Exchange property where you enter the user name on the client has been made.

Please tell me what is required to do perform this job suucessfully.

Ahmad

Can you logon to Exchange Server with the same account that is starting the NetBackup Client Service and then open the NBU Backup, Archive and Restore GUI and then use the Backup tab to browse mailboxes?

The process for creating a user account for the NetBackup Client Service is different for Exchange 2007 than for earlier versions of Exchange. Details in 292587.pdf that can be downloaded from  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH54386

Have you confirmed that Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package is installed on Exchange server?. Version 6.05.7888 or higher is required.

Dear Marianne,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my late reply, but we kinda have a limited working hours time, any how.

I can loging to the exchagne server withe backup account which is running the net backup service but when I open backup, archive and restore GUI i wasn't able to get the mailboxes at all.

I have followed the process of creating the service account already and the MAPI 6.5.8244.0 is installed.

What do you think would be the problem? I have looked everywhere, and I am not able to determine what is missing!

Ahmad

You need to carefully go through the Exchange part of the doc. Maybe get a colleague to check it with you - we often overlook something when we check ourselves.

I have in the past had the same experience with customers - asked the Exchange admin: 'can we slowly go through the Exchange admin account permissions just for my education?' (while admitting that I know nothing about Exchange). Each and every time something was missing....

Base on my experience, error code 69 on backup exchange is only about account permision.

Make sure the account that you used have administrator permission, and you granted the netbackup client services on exchange server.

Thank you all for the reply.

Well, I have gone throught the documentaion and several others,I follow what you are saying, and me as and IT specialist I know that there is something missing but I just couldn't figure out what is that thing,I have gone through the steps one by one.

  1. Creating an account with a unique mailbox name.
  2. Mailbox is not hidden.
  3. Granted the account Domain admin and Server local admin.
  4. Account is part of Exchange organization administrator.
  5. Cleint Service is running under this account.
  6. Host properties->Cleints->Exchange Server->Properties->Windows Cleint->Exchange->Mail box... is set to the account name "FQDN", double checked the related registry key as well.

Still cant't show the mailboxes under backup, archive and restore therefore still can't perform the backup, i cant suucessfully perform the information store backup, but not the individual mailbox one.

Is there a way to find out the exact missing permission?

Ahmad

Dear Falti,

Thanks for your reply.

I have already seen this video during trying to fix the problem, it only demonstrates Configuring Snapshot-based Information Store Backups, the policy on my side is created correctly:

  • Policy Type : MS-Exchange Server.
  • Allow Multiple Data Strams is Checked.
  • Schedules is Full Backup.
  • The client is my Exchange 2007 SP1 server.
  • Backup Selections: Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\

"Is there a way to find out the exact missing permission?"

Yes.

Exact permissions is explained on page 2 and 3 of the doc that I've posted above.

You have mentioned Exchange Organization Administrator rights - what about Exchange Server Administrator role for the server(s) to which this role has access ? (step 8 - 10 on p. 3).

If each step from 1 up to 14 is carefully followed, there should be no reason for this to fail...

Hi Marianne,

I know that you believe that I have somewhere missed a step or two, but I haven't, at least not from the document you have sent me or any other document I could put my hands on, the Exchange Server Administrator Role has been given already to the same account, I just didn't metion it in my previos reply.

I was hoping we can have a tool or a log file that can say for example "Exchange Server Administrator Role is missing".

Thanks a lot for your assistance.

Ahmad

In the below part taken from article on Symantec website it says in point two :

(6)    Can’t display Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes in BAR GUI.
1)      Check your settings for NBU & Exchange follow above several steps (SureJ)
2)      Make sure there is at least one letter in each mailbox account’s inbox.
3)      Make sure you have not any Outlook on your Exchange Server machine.

Now in my case, most of my mailbox ID is a number only, its basicly the employees ID numbers since it is also the domain user alias, would that be causing the issue i am facing?
