Exchange 2010 DAG - GRT restore on passive node

JKIM1

Hi,

I've been playing with NBU 7.6 appliance 5220 to replace the existing backup infrastructure lately.

I'm trying to set up a SAN-based backup with VMware level on Exchange 2010 2-node DAG environment at the moment.

When I perform a snapshot backup on the passive node (specifically, from DAG (application state) and try to browse and restore a single mailbox, I only see the public database on this passive node, which is only active on this passive node at this time. Also when I try to browse the public folder db that's the only one available to browse, I get "database system error."

Do I need to configure the snapshot backup on the active node to be able to see the all email databases to GRT restore?

Can someone please shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance,

John

Do I have to install Netbackup client on CAS in order to restore/browse the backed up database?

Yes, you need to install NBU client on the CAS.

Have you configured Distributed Application Restore Mapping?

It sounds like your asking about both a backup and a restore, but yes you would want to backup the active node.

You can protect the passive Databases with this work-around:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH173707

If you get DB error at browse time, you may need to look for the error in the ncflbc log.  The destination client needs to be running "client for NFS" and the NBU client service needs to run as a domain account.  You may also need to setup the "Distributed Application Restore Mapping" on the master server properties to allow the node name to access the virtual dag name's backup images.

Hi Marianne,

Thanks for your help!

After Distributed Application Restore Mapping, I am able to see folders in Public Folder Database.

I have installed Netbackup Client on CAS and configured the service account for the Netbackup client services.

And yet I'm still unable to browse individual items in each folder in Public Folder database. Would you please share your thoughts on this? Is there a log file that i can look into, specifically for this issue?

Thanks,

John

I can take a look at the logs.

Make sure the client that is performing the browse (client as the destination client) has general=2 and verbose=5 set.

try the browse. Collect and send me the ncflbc log that gets generated on the destination client.
