Condier the below example for exchange 2010 DAG backup using NBU 7.5.0.5.

xxx - passive node

a - mailbox DB

b - mailbox DB

c - mailbox DB

d - mailbox DB

yyy - passive node

a - mailbox DB

b - mailbox DB

c - mailbox DB

d - mailbox DB

when try to backup Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\

When i trigger backup, snaphot stream starts on only one of the passive node leaving other pasive node untouched. That too snapshot will not complete and it takes more than 40 hrs then we had to manually cancell it.

Preferred server list - conatins both passive node.

Need your help on this.

Is there a way in NBU to force backup to happen from the required dag nodes as below :

xxx - passive node

a - mailbox DB

b - mailbox DB

yyy - passive node

c - mailbox DB

d - mailbox DB

with backup selection Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\

Bharath

hi Bharath,

I am not seeing possiblity to achive this without using mulitple policies

possible ways that i am seeing..

1) create mulitiple polices and use  backup selction as Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\ and use exlude list  to exlude the DBs that you want to take backup with other passive node.

Policy 1:-

backup selection :-

Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\

exclude list:-

c - mailbox DB

d - mailbox DB

perfer server list:-xxx - passive node only

policy 2:-

backup selection :-

Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\

exclude list:-

a - mailbox DB

b - mailbox DB

perfer server list:-yyy - passive node only

2) create mulitiple polices and use  backup selction as specific DBs indivdally.

I'm curious as to why when you have 2 passive nodes but you want to restrict access for certain dbs.

Is there some underlying reasoning here?

I would also look into why the snapshot takes a long time (or is that no longer an issue?).

For the record I have 2 passive nodes, one being a media server (hence I prefer to use it) : I dont exclude anything  just let it organise itself and use node1, the one that is a media server, and if the db on there is not available then it head off to node 2, which will give me the data over the network, slower but better than no data at all.

It might help if we knew more about your setup and the reasoning.

Thanks,Jim
