Exchange restore failure ...

Hey all,

I'm having issues doing an exchange restore to an alternate client running Quest's Recovery Manager for Exchange.  Exchange Tools on the system.  I routinely do restores from my BCVs to this system but this happens to be a live exchange backup.

I get the Quest client all ready by registering the storage to emulate an exchange server.  I then go ahead and from BAR, use the Exchange restore option and start the restore.  It loads the tape and starts reading (it says writing but I don't know where it's writing...) but then the client job details coughs up the this message - "BEDS 0xE00084AF: The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed"

I have the AltName file "No.Restrictions" on the NBU server so I can do the alternate restore without access issues.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks!
PM.

Is this any help?

How to restore an Exchange 2000/2003 database to an alternate server:

Thank you SDW, but I've pretty much been following that to a tee.

Could it be permissions related?  If so,  can't figure out where.

I'm thoroughly frustrated and open to suggestions.

Thank you in advance for any help or insight!

Does the version of the Quest tool officially support your O/S version and NetBackup version of media server?

I think you'll need to go to Quest for support, as the tool that is failing is not even NetBackup.

SDW,

I think it's a NBU issue more than anything.  The error messages are from the NBU restore job not from Quest.  The NBU job is restoring to the wrong place, there are some permissions issues or I'm missing something on the NBU side.  Quest doesn't do anything until the database is restored.

Thanks!
Phil.

So what is acting as a "NetBackup MS Exchange Database Agent" on the receiving client side?  You can't restore a backup secured using an MS-EXchange policy type to a plain client.  Don't you have to get the Quest tool to act as a pretend MS Exchange server so that the NetBackup client knows where to send the data to?

Thanks SDW.

The alternate client has Exchange tools and Quests exchange emulator working.  We are on 6.0 and I thought that the NBU Client bundles all options within that client (including SQL and EXchange).  Do I need an additional client or Exchange software on the target system?

I ended up doing a restore from the source client to the source client's RSG in Exchange and it worked fine.  But I would still like to get this to work properly for future reference.  I can restore my BCVs (which is different than an online IS, i know) just fine to this system.

Your thoughts?
Thanks.

I'm not really an Exchange person.  Sorry.

Anyone else?
