Exclude folders from file level backup

j_durlewanger

I am migrating from backup exec 2010 r2 to netbackup. I am starting with file level backups. I want to backup an entire directory and exclude 3-4 folders from the directory being backed up.

I have tried looking for information on how to do this but I am not finding anything.

I'm curious if the /subdir and /exclude switches will work when I set the path in the backup selection.

Only port 1556 is needed. If port 1556 comms fail, NBU will try 13724. Ports need to be open in both directions.  See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136090 as from ' NetBackup 7.0.1 Considerations'.

Confirm successful forward and reverse lookup between server and client - see http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH27430 and http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50198

Ensure bpcd log folder exists on client under <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\logs\ for further troubleshooting.

No, those switches will not work with Netbackup

You set up Exclude Lists in Windows Client Properties

Can you be more specific? I'm very new to netbackup.

Best to review the Symantec NetBackupAdministrator's Guide, Volume I

section titled Exclude Lists properties

"Specify exclude and include lists in the Backup, Archive, and

Restore client interface. Start Backup, Archive, and Restore. On

the File menu, click NetBackup Client Properties. Select the

ExcludeList tab or the IncludeList tab. For further instructions,

see the NetBackup users guide for the client.

The Exclude List or the Include List can also be specified

through the NetBackup Administration Console on the master

server"

thank you. I was able to find that information. I am unable to pull client properties from the admin console. What ports are needed for it to communicate and pull the client properties?

I have the following open:

1556, 13722, 13724, 13783

Are you using a remote admin console or the one on the Master?

If a remote one then make sure your PC has been added to the server list on all clients and also if possible set your PC to use a fixed ip address to help with name resolution from you to the client and vice-versa

Checking ports from the master server to the client resolved the issue. The ports were open from the media server to the client but not the master server to the client.
