Please try to rephrase this?

So, i observed, that the tapes already content images expired, even the image cleanup passed successfuly.

Are you saying that tapes are not deassigned after image expiration date?

Please show us output of this command (on active master server node) for one of the tapes that have gone past expiration date:

nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>
(command is in <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd)

PS:
PLEASE see Veritas policy on support for W2003 : https://sort.veritas.com/nbufutureplans
and EOSL for NBU 7.5: https://sort.veritas.com/eosl/show_matrix

Hello Marianne,

thanks for accepting helping me.

Have you tried to manually run the image cleanup? Are you getting any message in the cleanup log about skipped images?

Under <Install Path>\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\

bpexpdate -deassignempty -force
bpimage -cleanup -allclients

yes, i manually run cleanup, but, and finished correctly, but, there no trace for tapes, or images in tape.

MagMan,

I guess I don't understand...

Do you want to restore expired images?

or

Do you want the tapes which contain images to return to "scratch"?

hi SplashMasterson,

i want tapes that content no valid images (expired imagesà to be cleanup, and return to scratch volume pool.

I don't quite understand your question as well.. but from the tape output let me see if I get it right...

VAE013 is the tape you said had expired - and based on data expiration, yes.. it would have expired by now. But it did not go back to scratch pool. Was that your question??

Tape is ACTIVE that means not FROZEN. The "Sharing_Group" might be causing this but you have only 1 image so that should be fine. So now even running those cleanup commands it's still not released?

Can you also check if there is a HOLD being placed on this image?

Do a "nbholdutil -list" to see if it's in there. If it's there, check with your team if they still need the tape for certain reason.

If you don't need the image, you can remove it from the HOLD by doing:

nbholdutil -delete -holdid <holdID>  (check form -list)

So, my understanding is that tapes are not deassigned after image expiration is reached.

My 1st reaction would be to look for NoExpire touch file (as per above post) as there is no documented bug with NBU 7.5.x and image expiration.
The only version that had a bug with expiration and image cleanup not happening was 7.0.1: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000008552

There are a couple of documented issues with expiration in different patch levels of 7.5.0.x, but none of what seems to be happening here.
NBU 7.5 LBN: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000015784

*** EDIT ***

Another user described a similar situation a couple of months ago, but simply stopped responding:
https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/Media-Expire/m-p/764235
Useful in this discussion is mph999's post on 29 Jan : https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/Media-Expire/m-p/764249#M213655  where he mentions bptm -delete_all_expired that should run automatically every 10 minutes with evidence in bptm log (I assume log level 3 or higher).
Maybe worth checking bptm log?
Create the log folder if it does not exist and increase logging level for bptm.

If there is no NoExpire touch file in place, please log a call with Veritas Support to investigate.

hi,

here is the output of the command :

D:\>nbholdutil -list
 No hold records found.

Marianne, there is no NoExpire touch file.

i will open a case with the Veritas support.

Thanks.
