Hi All,

Currently My Master/Media on same machine running on NetBackup 7.0 and, we had plan to upgrade to 7.5, so i downloaded latest 7.6 NBCC file and i ran NBCC -upgrade in specific path, and it shows there is no catalog inconsistencies files.

but my issue was when i try to upgrade the 7.0 to 7.5 by running the .exe file(server software installation--> agree condition-->), its asking for Licence for 7.5 for master server, i think so if i provide the Licence it will treat as fresh installation right? can any one help me on this ?

NBCC output:-

D:\>cd "Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\support"

D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\support>NBCC.exe -version

You should add your 7.5 license key to make sure all new 7.5 features get enabled

It should only have the option of Master Server and on the next screen the path selection "Change" button should be greyed out

You should do a Custom install and select not to start job services at the end of the installation

Remember that as soon as the install finishes you need to do a bpdown, make sure no services are running and then immediately patch to 7.5.0.7 (if you are going for that patch)

Once that is installed then start to monitor the progress of the catalog migration using the nbemmcmd and once phase 1 has completed run a bpimage -cleanup -allclients to force phase 2 through (monitor again with the nbemmcmd)

Good luck - hope this helps

You need to provide your new license key as part of any upgrade/installation.

This is standard practice as the new license is needed to enable the new features introduced by the new version of NBU.

Hi Marianne,

Thanks for your post, and i was bit confused in some documents it was showing no need to provide the Licence for upgrade NBU from 7.0 to 7.5. so i'm afraid to give the Licence wjen it prompts(i thought server will treat as fresh installation)

and in my case NBU was installed in D:\, and if i want to upgrade NBU 7.0 to 7.5 then i i need to run .exe file of 7.5 and need to select (server s/w installation--> , accept licence-->need to select--> Install to Local computer--->Typical option(need to change the path to d:\) and Process will asks for Licence, if i provide 7.5 Licence then NBU will upgrade from 7.0 to 7.5 with out any issue?

and Marianne do i need to stop the exsting NBU services and start the upgrade ? or do i need run the upgrade normally ?

The installer will stop the services for you so make sure backups are complete/not running.

Hello Marianne/Riaan,

Thanks for the posts, and could please confirm my previous post is correct way to proceed with the upgrade?

An upgrade is a simple 'Install on top of existing'. NBU will detect current installation and perform an upgrade.

If I may ask - have you gone through the Upgrade section in NetBackup Installation Guide for Windows  http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5155 ?

And the NetBackup 7.5 Upgrade Guide http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5198  ?

And the Upgrade portal http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74584  including all links referred to in this TN?

See this topic in the Installation Guide:

About the upgrade order for NetBackup 7.5

Extract:
The installation process automatically searches to determine if an earlier
NetBackup version exists on your system. The presence of an existing version
dictates that you are about to perform an upgrade.
Before you proceed with any upgrade, be sure to review the upgrade requirements.
See β€œRequirements for upgrading Windows servers to NetBackup 7.5” on page 33.

*** EDIT ***

Some users have also shared their own upgrade experience on Connect.

I have seen in the past that i will ask for the license, just ignore that and continue.
