File system "vmware" backup that causes MSSQL DB on the virtual machines to do a Full Backup

Hello,

We are running Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on a 2008 R2 SP1 windows server.

We have many "VMware" policies that run a file system backup of all local drives in the virtual machines.

Some of the virtual machines contain SQL databases located on rdm disks.

We thought that when we run a FS vmware backup on those machines, only the local drives (C:\) are backed up.

Recently, we discovered that the vmware backup actually makes a SQL full backup.

 

There are some printscreens that will describe batter the issue.

This is all the VM backup that was on a specific server for the last month:

Is this a VMware policy type and if so have you selected on the VMware tab to backup SQL during the backup?

If not it may just be the application quiesce causing VSS to do this during the snapshot creation

You can disable this behaviour using option B in this tech note:

The reason was because the quiesce option that was enabled.
