Flashbackup Hangs

FlasBackup-Windows
Snapshot Method: VSS
Backup Selection: \\.\D:

There are 14,900,000 files, and 76GB of data on a 150GB volume.
I ran the job 3 times and all three times the job stopped at 13GB and 12,900,000+ files.  When I cancelled the job, it jumped up another 200 or 300MB before it died so I don't think it's one particular file causing the problem.  Window-NT backups finish successfully but they're super slow so I was trying to come up with a better solution.  I tried changing the buffer size file but didn't make any changes to the number of buffers file.

The CPU utilization bounces up and down while the job is running but the bpbkar process sticks at 50% processor utilization and that's when the job stops writing data.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why the job is failing?  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set the buffers to speed up the backups?  I have all of the logs activated, is there one in particular I can check to find out why the job freezes?

Thanks,
Randy

I know that Flashbackup jobs require exclusive drive access when they are running.  Can you verify that there are no other processes accesing data on the disk that you are performing a flashbackup on?

As for buffer sizes and settings:
Refer to this technote
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/183702.htm

And then to the Performance & Tuning Guide.
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/281842.htm

IFthis was helpful give points. =)

There are so many variable to try but I'm sure I'll hit something that will improve my backups.  Thanks for the document links.  I will post a response if I'm able to improve the backups with a specific buffer setting.
