Hi

I have a problem with Active Directory backup. During this backup I have the message:

11.07.2019 19:09:45 - Info bpbrm (pid=208846) from client hts010202.hdw.hdwgroup.net: TRV - Starting granular backup processing for (System State\Active Directory). This may take a while...
11.07.2019 19:10:24 - Info bpbrm (pid=208846) from client hts010202.hdw.hdwgroup.net: TRV - Granular processing failed!
11.07.2019 19:10:24 - Error bpbrm (pid=208846) from client hts010202.hdw.hdwgroup.net: ERR - Error encountered while attempting to get additional files for System State:\

The backup ended with error 1.

Does anyone have an idea where to look or how to fix it?

regards

Nils

If your Netbackup version is 8.1 or below you might want to check the link below.

This article fixed my issue and I am getting status 0 on AD backups.

Has it ever worked?

Have you configured everything for GRT as per the manual?
(Admin Guide I  -  Active Directory granular backups and recovery)

Hi Marianne

no it has never worked and i think i have configured all. NFS, Domainaccount for the Clientservice and Ports.

If it has never worked, I would sit with the Domain Admin and go through each step in the manual to check and validate all requirements.
Most of the time we find that a single step has been missed in the process.

The manual starts off with high-level steps, with reference to another section of the manual that contains the details:

■ The Network File System (NFS) must be installed on the media server and all
Active Directory domain controllers or ADAM/LDS hosts.
See “About installing and configuring Network File System (NFS) for Active
Directory Granular Recovery” on page 1214.
See “About configuring Services for Network File System (NFS) on Windows
2012, 2012 R2, or 2016” on page 1215.
See “About configuring Services for Network File System (NFS) on Windows
2008 and 2008 R2” on page 1223.
■ The NetBackup Client Service must be configured to log on as an account with
domain privileges.
To perform granular backups and restores of the Active Directory, the NetBackup
Legacy Client Service (bpinetd) must run under the domain administrator
account on the Active Directory domain controller or ADAM server. By default,
bpinetd runs under the Local System account.
See “Configuring the NetBackup Client Service” on page 1148.
For information on the media server platforms that support Granular Recovery
Technology see the NetBackup compatibility lists on the Veritas NetBackup
Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).

If all config items have been checked and verified, you will need to dig into the logs to see where the process failed.

What specific NetBackup version?

Whenever you see "Error bpbrm (pid) from client...", look on the client for more information. In this case, look at the bpbkar log on the client.

The procedure in the support article also applies to NetBackup 8.1.1 and newer. The difference is that you don't need an EEB for it.

However, this is only one possible reason for failure. It's worth checking through the setup steps as @Marianne suggested. Do check the client bpbkar log to find what the actual failure is.

Thank you very much

The article helped me a lot. We use the version 8.1.1 and the temporary directory with the registry entries has helped.
