HBA drivers for tape/disk connection

Somebody recommended switching to the FC Port Driver rather than the MiniPort Driver for our Emulex LP952 HBAs. This allows to set specific settings that help in a tape environment (see http://oak.emulex.com/fcsskb/findsol2.asp?solution=12990).

Now, problem is that we use our HBAs for both disk access and tape and I'm wondering if the "TapeResetMask" switch will impact the disc connection. The idea of this switch is to prevent SCSI reset commands to reach the tape drive. Although the description of the switch states that "If set to 1, the driver does not send the Target Reset command to tape drives and media changes in response to the driver receiving a SCSI Bus Reset command", I'm a bit worried.

Is the driver clever enough to distunguish tape drives and robots from disks? Have people ever used that switch?

Thanks
Martin

What's your OS? In the Win2k3 world all I do is this hack http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;842411
and it greatly helps fibre attached drives.Message was edited by:

We got Win2k and Win2k3 master servers.

Hmm, that hack seems to apply only if backups to tape don't work at all. Do you see performance improvement between before and after applying the registry fix?

Thanks
