Help needed nbdb_unload

unkn0wnn
Level 4

Hello,

I need help running nbdb_unload on live system without breaking things...

Basically I have restored all db/images directory without nbdb and just need to read these files.

So we are in:

/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/backupclient/1367000000

cd ../

We are now in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/backupclient/

Can I now run this:

nbdb_unload 1367000000

Or can I just read these files somehow ?

else I need help on running nbdb_unload on /usr/openv/db/staging/ *.db

Have you double-checked the retentions in UK-AdvDisk-Tape-Infinity SLP?

nbstl UK-AdvDisk-Tape-Infinity -L [-all_versions]
(not sure in which NBU version was -all_versions added).

If the SLP has correct retentions, then the images WILL be stored with matching retention.

One more thing -  for DB-type backups (e.g. SQL), then the SLP or retention selected in Default-Application schedule will be applied to backup streams.

Ok I am going to import manually all tape contents as I do not have any server where I could test things...

Marianne / all, is phase 1 enough to recover BAR or phase 2 is also required ???

Phase 1 will bring back header info only.

You still need to run phase 2 to bring back 'files files' that will enable restores.

Please be aware that phase 1 import has an automatic retention of 1 week. you need to complete phase 2 import before phase 1 expires.

So if I want all the images then these will get written to a disk, right ? As you already know, all I wanted is to have bar so I can do restores

Apologies, I have no idea what this means.

Phase 1 will create header info in nbdb database.

Phase 2 will create 'files' list in images folder on the master server and update header info (in nbdb) with 2-week retention.

Next step is to use bpexpdate to change retention that matches business requirements.

What do you mean ? I want to have images imported to be infinity retention.

How do I do that ?

Apologies. The NBU documentation says that after phase 2 import, the retention level will match the original retention level.

BUT you REALLY need to check bpimagelist output after successful phase 2 import.

My view is that the duplication had the incorrect retention level to start off with and that is why the images expired in the first place.

So, if bpimagelist output after phase 2 shows anything other than INFINITY, you need to use bpexpdate to change retention to INFINITY.

Ah right I see,

See below phase 1 import results please, it's found multiple clients backups however only 1 was available for phase 2 import, why would that be ?

Looks like something removes my posts

Phase 1 found images for 2 clients however only 1 was available for phase 2 process, why would that be ?

I honestly have no idea.

Maybe not all fragments for the image were found in the phase 1 import. Maybe more than one tape was used for this backup/duplication.
Have you checked the Results tab of the Import?

It is important that all fragments for phase 1 is completed before phase 2 import is started.

Marianne please find attached and advise.

Have a look at the very first image fragment on this tape:

11:23:45 INF - Recreating image information for client postfix-full, policy Notes-Server-MailFiles, and schedule Period_End, done on 06/10/2013 00:00:05.
11:23:45 INF - Recreating copy 2, fragment 6 information for image.

Fragments 1 - 5 was written on another tape. NBU has no idea which media id. If you have a manual record of media-ids used on this day, then you need to complete phase 1 import for all of them.

Ah right I see, so currently in the db I have a chunk of information but just needs to get the rest to have it available for phase 2 import right ? Basically I am going to do phase 1 on each tape and check what is available for phase 2, is that ok ?

Marianne

Correct.

You need to complete phase 1 import on all tapes before starting phase 2.
Please be mindful of the 1-week retention on phase 1 image headers.

Is it a must ? Can I not do phase 2 for images that are available straight after phase 1 then ?

Marianne

It is not a must. Just best practise as you may loose track of what has been imported and what not.

Please go ahead with the process that works for you.

Pretty much lenght process, it takes 6 hours to read lto5 tape, both phases. so I have over 360 tapes to import.
