Dear Experts
I am new with NetBackup and have started my learnings with version 7.5
I was going through the concept of de-duplication feature
I have an idea of what de-duplication does but I am confuse with how it will treat database such as for SQL
If any of you can direct me with relevant article about how de-duplication works with databases or if anyone can explain me out.
Regards

Symantec develops deduplication stream handler for database, application, and NDMP backups.
By NetBackup 7.5 Deduplication Guide:
About deduplication stream handlersNetBackup provides the stream handlers that process various backup data streamtypes. Stream handlers improve backup deduplication rates by processing theunderlying data stream. For data that has already been deduplicated, the first backup with a new streamhandler produces a lower deduplication rate. After that first backup, thededuplication rate should surpass the rate from before the new stream handlerwas used.Symantec continues to develop additional stream handlers to improve backupdeduplication performance.

The data base is a stream of characters like any other file, if the stream of characters move around a lot because of the data base structure or usage, then recognising character streams will be hard and deduplication rate will be low.
If your DB has little activity you can expect higer deduplication rate.
For instance compression and encryption is not advised if your are using deduplication storage locations. As these mechanisms alter character streams all the time and you will see very few identical character streams, therefore very little deduplication.
