Hi there.
I have a bunch of tapes I need to use. All I want to do is add them back into the ScratchPool but as they have been written to and not yet expired I get the error:
"Cannot change media pool of an assigned media".
So I run this command:
bpexpdate -m <tape> -d 0 -force
And I get the error:
"requested media id is not assigned to this host in the EMM database"
I've tried this on master and media server and get the same result.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

post the output of nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid
And check the output, it might already be expired.Just check the Last Write host,Time Assigned, Volume expiration and data expiration. If these fields are blank that means it is already expired.
What NBU you are running.
check this as well

Hmm, are you sure you are giving the <media id> in the command and not the <barcode>, which may be different ?

I agree with request for output of the following for one of the tapes:
nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>
Please also check if tapes were created via SLP backup or duplication.
If so, you will not be able to expire using bpexpdate as images are controlled by SLP.

That a point - however, the message is different if you tr to expire a tape under SLP control.
"no images were successfully processed"
... well that's what I get on my system ....

Seems the error changes across different versions...
I have seen this error in NBU 7.0 for tapes under SLP control:
"invalid command parameter"

Hmm, nice that it is consistant then ....

Thanks for everyone's comments and help. I will take everything into consideration, and let you know the outcome when I get round to it again. Thanks

Hi all.
Did you try to specify the host name of the server to which the media is assigned.
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpexpdate -m 0922L1 -d 0 -host mserver1
