How restore an encrypted backup from an external client and tape

Hi.

We need to restore a backup executed in an external Veritas Enterprise Server 6.5.5 platform,in our platform (with the same version of Veritas).

This backup was encrypted and the tape used is valid for our backup robot (and LTO-3 tape).

The backup was done for a client machine that doesn't exist nowadays in our platform.

1. It's possible to restore this encrypted backup in our platform using this tape?.

2. How could we restore it?, what steps should be done and how?.

Any help on this?

Thansk in advance.

Client side encryption

You will need to install and configure Client side encryption on the destination client and also copy the encryption keyfile (/usr/openv/var/keyfile.dat) from the source client to the destination client.

Please see this detailed TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH56759

Thanks , Marianne.

About the tape, this is a customer tape, it doesn't exist in our platform, and the barcode is different of ours, so, how t import it?, there will be any problem about this?.

We can't copy the encryption keyfile from the source client, because this source client is not available from our platform. I supposse that we have to regenerate it as indicated in step 3, is it right?.

If your robot has a barcode reader it should automatically add the media id when you inventory the robot. Be sure to move it to a non-backup pool.

You will have to perform phase 1 and 2 import after you have re-generated the encryption key.
If I am not mistaken, you may have to do this on the media server as well in order to read the tape during import.

Step 3 in the TN looks good.
