How to backup a Windows 2012 R2 failover cluster CSV (clustered shared volume)?

How do you configure NetBackup to backup a CSV volume?

In our configuration we are NOT using these volumes for Hyper-V. Most of the documentation around CSVs refers to backing up CSVs used with Hyper-V but we are not using these volumes for Hyper-V in our configuration.

I must admit that my only reference to CSV volumes has been in Hyper-V context.

I had to Google CSV volumes in failover cluster:

Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) enable multiple nodes in a failover cluster to simultaneously have read-write access to the same LUN (disk) that is provisioned as an NTFS volume. (In Windows Server 2012 R2, the disk can be provisioned as NTFS or Resilient File System (ReFS)

Backing this up will therefore be the same as any other volume in a clustered environment.
(IMHO...)

The policy type will depend on the type of data. If 'regular' files/folders (not a database), then config a MS-Windows policy.
Add the Virtual hostname for the cluster group as Client name in policy.
Add the CSV volume mountpoint in Backup Selection.

Backup of a database will be similar.
Add application/DB virtual hostname as Client name.
Select the appropriate policy type.
If a script is initiated by the db policy, create the script on the shared volume.
Add the path to the script in Backup Selection.

Hi Marianne, thank you for the reply.

It is just regular files and folders in our case.

We followed your suggestion above and selected the mount point (in our case C:\ClusteredStorage\CSV_Backup) in the backup selection and then ran a backup but none of the contents within the CSV volume is backed up.

DFS-R perhaps?
If so, it cannot be backed up using normal path. DFS is backed up as part of Shadow Copy Components.

Afraid we are not using DFS.

We got a little further by selecting cross mount points. However this only backed up the folders in the root of the volume and none of their subfolders and files.

Slowly running out of ideas...

Are there any special permissions on the subfolders? Something that LocalSystem account cannot access?
Try to change NBU Client service to a domain account with sufficient rights to the folders.
