Hi NBU experts,
Im Oracle DBA which struggle with NBU. Currently there is no NBU admin. I tried to find solution by google but with no success ... I need your help.
What I have: NBU 7.6.0.3 - master server on Windows 2012, few Oracle RAC databases on Linux that I backup to tape's via RMAN script, fired by NBU shedulers. Its working fine. On master server I have connected large (few TB) disk storage device.
What I want to do: copy/unload one or more DB RMAN backups form tape/tapes to storage that I have on master server
How I can do that?
Regards

Yes - that possible
Take a look in the admin guide for the "basic disk staging". SLP stagning is more complex but can do advanced stuff. I recommend you go for "basic stagning" first.

Please note: you will need to create a new disk storage unit and the Oracle policy will need to point to this disk storage unit.
Feel free to ask more qustions, and good luck with yore task as backup admin ;)
Best Regards

hi, from what i can gather, first you need to make sure that available storage is mountable from your Oracle servers then just do a redirected restore using RMAN.

That additional storage is avaiable only on master server. I cant mout it to Oracle servers.

anything else using that additional storage? if none, you can mount it remotely using NFS from your Oracle server.

As per Nicolai's post - you will need to create a BasicDisk Storage Unit for the storage connected to the master server.
Please read through relevant sections in the manual.
If you do not configure Staging to tape, you will need to manually monitor disk space.
There are 2 factors that detemines length of time that NBU keeps images on disk:
1. Retention level in NBU policy schedule
2. Successful staging to tape.
If you want to duplicate existing images on tape to disk, let us know - we will guide you to the relevant section in NBU Admin Guide I.
PS:
If you need to manage NBU for the forseeable future, please try to attend 5-day classroom training.
