How to exclude System_State:\ and/or Shadow Copy Components:\

In the file selection list of a policy one can define System_State:\ and/or Shadow Copy Components:\ (depending on the OS) to only backup these items. We now want to exclude these items if we use the ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES directive. In the exclude window we only can define files or directories.

How can we exclude System_State:\ and/or Shadow Copy Components:\ from one or more clients in a policy?

Yeah you can exclude them.  On the client properties add in "Shadow Copy Components:\" to the exclude list.  When the backup kicks off (with all_local_drives) a child job will kick off for the Shadow Copy Components, however it won't back up anything and will complete successfully.

Hi

I recently went on the System Admin course and another student had the same problem. No answer was given (though of course trainers aren't support people -- the course was very good by the way) but it was suggested that it's not possible, or would be solved in the next release.

I'd put that to symantec support myself.

Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks, it works! Tested with Version 6.0 MP4. Child process executes and ends with status 0 backing up NO files and 2KB data.
