Golden,

Its really simple. Please follow this procedure:

1) First find backup ID from Catalog option.

2) Please read the below mention levels:

Here is a list of the default retention levels:

Level Period Days

--------- ----------- ----------

0 1 week 7

1 2 weeks 14

2 3 weeks 21

3 1 month 31

4 2 months 62

5 3 months 93

6 6 months 186

7 9 months 279

8 1 year 365

9 infinity

3) Now done actual procedure.

(Suppose your Backup ID as follow: SRMDTSCL_1286781974)

e.g. to recalculate the expiration date of a backup image based on a new retention level:

bpexpdate -recalculate -ret <retention level> -backupid <backup_id>

or to set a specific expiration date of a backup image:

bpexpdate -d <mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss> -backupid <backup_id>

The best way to do this I find is to duplicate the image and then change the retention period. I dont know if there is a command line way to just change the retention period maybe someone else will be able to tell you.

To do this Open the administration console go to NetBackup management, then catalog.

Change the action to duplicate and search for the required backup image you want to change.

Once you have found the image, right click on it and select duplicate.

Tick copy 1 and fill in the infomation of where you want the backup copy to go (storage unit)

In the retention tab select your new retention period for the image. The retention still works from when the backup image was backed up so if you backed up the image with a 2 week retention period but now want to make it 1 Month select 1 month.

Click ok and then the image will duplicate and extend the retention period. If you want to view whats happening click on the results tab at the bottom.

I hope this helps
