How to recovery media server on Linux?

Hello,

I need to make plan to recovery master & media server. Master use NBU catalogue. I can confgure.

With media server. This is the step guide.

NetBackup 6.0 and later media servers store information in the NetBackup relational database. If you need to recover the system disk on a NetBackup media server, the recommended procedure is similar to disk recovery for the client.See “Recovering the system disk on a UNIX client workstation” on page 213.

I have some questions with this.

What file I need to backup? Is that the /usr/openv/netbackup/db ?

What step I need to recovery?

- reinstall OS ( same OS version, partition, patches, software )

- restore configuration file?

How about the MSDP information of storage server stored in the Logical Volume?

Thank you for reading.

What file I need to backup? Is that the /usr/openv/netbackup/db ?

If you have added custom buffer files in /usr/openv/netbackup/db/config, you can back this up with normal Standard policy.
Same for any OS-level files that were added/modified.
There are no NBU catalogs stored on the media server - all NBU config for media server is stored on the master server.

What step I need to recovery?

Install OS, Install & patch NBU, Ensure devices can be seen at OS level. Check comms between master and media server, then run device config wizard to ensure devices are correct in case device naming changed at OS-level during install.

- restore configuration file?

You can restore config files that were backed up using OS (Standard) policy.

How about the MSDP information of storage server stored in the Logical Volume?

MSDP should be intact as this is on separate volume.
Just mount the MSDP storage to same mountpoint as before before restarting NBU.
Storage Server, Diskpool and Storage Unit info is stored in EMM database on the master.

For the MSDP see chapter 9 in dedupe guide. Make sure you have a backup of the MSDP configuration before doing this

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue
