I have a hung incremenetal exchange backup that has hung for a day or two now. When I use the activity monitor on the master server cancelling it does nothing. How can I force stop this job so i restart it? Will a reboot of the master server fix this?

Look through the Job Details to identify the bptm and/or bpbrm (iirc) process numbers.
Then go to the media server that was handling the job and look for those processes; if they exist, kill them.
Also login to the client and check for bpbkar processes; kill those as well.
Rebooting also works, obviously.

I use bpdbjob command to clear them out.
Amusingly - I find mostly these are actually in the java admin console. Try stopping and restarting your console.
Of course, if the processes are still on the media server, the process DPSafelite provided will work.
