NetBackup does not work like that.

You need to ensure that there is sufficient media in the robot to write to.
'available_media' in goodies directory is a great report to run on a daily basis to ensure that you have enough free tapes in the robot.

Status 96 is perfectly normal if there is no more media in the robot to write to.
A robot means that backups are supposed to be automated and unattended.

If you have OpsCenter, you can config reports to notify you when Scratch media is low.

... my backup ... got failed due to 96 error.

Were there any more media available in the same pool?

Are you using a robot or Standalone drive?

Hi Marianne,

Ya is there, but all media are got full...

We using TLD robot...

Like in Symantec Exec why in NetBackup job not going in queued, still we load the required tape...

Is there is any option to enable Alert for the tape capacity which going to get full?

Will the backup image resides in tape after the backup failure with 96 error?

If we restart the failed backup job with 96 error, will it start from failed backup size?

Adding to Mariannes outstanding post, it is recommended to have a few more media than you actually need.

Media fail, extra backups are sometime required etc ... so it is quite easy to justify have ing a few more media, so you always have some spare.

Lets be honest, a few media, compared to the cost of NBU is not very miuch moneuy, and they will be used at some point, so you are not 'wasting' money ...
