NBU does not support import of BUE tapes from NBU 7.6, this was the time when BETR was discontinued.

If you are looking to just erase the tape and re-use it in NBU - you need to check that format in Media Server properties as by default NBU will detect and will not overwrite a foreign tape: see https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/doc/18716246-126559472-0/v40147893-126559472

I agree with @Mouse  - importing BE tape will not work in NBU 8.

Your only chance will be with NBU 7.6 (if you really need this data and cannot deploy BE server).

Herewith TN regarding BE tape import : https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/article.100000926.html

Future Plans
There are no plans to improve or expand coverage beyond the current capabilities, nor support any images after Backup Exec 12.  (There is no support for Backup Exec 12.5 images or later image versions.)

NetBackup 7.6 will be the last release to support BETR functionality.

AND - if the original tape is encrypted, you are SOL.

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

@Mouse @Marianne

Thanks for replies,

I want to copy images on the mentioned media to disk and transfer to NBU 7.6 or BE server. Can I do that with netbackup? (just read and copy images) if no, do you have any suggestion?

Thanks

@shahriar_sadm

As per our replies 6 weeks ago - the BETR (Backup Exec Tape Reader) is no longer part of NBU in versions later than 7.6.

This does not make any sense whatsoever.
If you have a NBU 7.6 or BE server, you can use one of those to import/catalog the tape.
There is no way you can import BE tapes in NBU 8 (as you have experienced).

You can only import BE images on NBU version 7.6 or earlier or else catalog the tape on a BE server.
There is no other way.

@Marianne

Thanks Marianne for reply, I just want to read and copy images to disk because I have just one single drive tape library in my environment and as far as I know I can't attach tape library to second netbackup server(7.6).

So I have to hire a tape drive or try in other environment.

Thanks

Hi!

So, for NBU 8.0 and later, the following article is not applicable? https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100000744

that doc you posted, has a link named:

Statement of support for the importing of Backup Exec images in NetBackup 7.x using the Backup Exec ...

...which in turn links to this:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100000926.html

...which says "NetBackup 7.6 will be the last release to support BETR functionality".
