Actually backup speed depends on
1) Your Network Speed
2) The processing capability of the Master and the client
3) Drive speed ofcourse
You may check that whether tracker.exe is running on the mailserver client. Actually its purpose is to show the status of the backu .
But also it slows down the backups considerably.

BTW what does the task manager shows..is there any process that is eating up lot of memory ?
