Is backing up Shadow copy components and System state is same?

I have a misconfiguration of Windows backup policy for one of the clients with only backing up shadow copy components for a long time. A few days back I see that the backup was failing and identified the policy backing up only Shadow copy components nothing else. That client has a problem and thought of taking C:\ drive FULL backup and could n't take Shadow copy components backup on the same day as it was failing with errors.

When the Client machine was rebooted it crashed and wanted to restore the C:\ drive full backup and Shadow copy components FULL backup (that was taken on a different date).

Now my question is if I restore the C:\ drive FULL backup from a different date and Shadow copy components FULL backup from a different date will that work?

In fairness, this is not really a NetBackup question.

And, I doubt very much that Microsoft would support that.  I can't imagine that Microsoft's design and implementation of a large and complex operating system has such a circumstance in mind.

Thank you Sdo, so backing up Shadow copy components or System state is same? as I see that in NBU restore documents.

They are not the same :

about System_State

about Shadow_Copy_Components

.

In practical terms, most of the time, they are mostly the same.  But there are times when they are not, especially when DFSR is present.

Thank you Sdo, I tried to restore with the older Shadow Copy components backup image and the newer copy of C:\ drive FULL backup image, the restoration of data is successful. However when I reboot the machine it did not boot the OS, It says the error as attached.

Herewith supported Full system restore procedure:

Use NetBackup to perform a complete restore of Windows clients without IDR or BMR
https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH56473

ALL steps in TechNote must be followed - this is your only chance for success.

Thank you, Marianne. I followed the article and got the earlier attached message. Not sure if the backup dates of Shadow copy components and the C:\ drive is causing the issue!

Sorry, no. This statement in the TN implies 'same' backup for all components:

The success of a full restore will depend on a "reliable" full system backup.

If you log a Support call with Veritas, I am sure they will tell you the same.
