Is it possible to have a 7.6 client running with a 7.1 server?

Hi,

The 7.1 client doesn't seem to be installing correctly on Windows Server 2012 R2. Would it be possible if I install a 7.6 client and have it connect to a 7.1 server? Or would I need to upgrade the server as well?

Thanks.

Not supported at all.

Master server need to be higher or equal to the Netbackup client version.  From 7.6 this rule has been softened at little - please see NBU 7.6.0.4 release notes - page  66

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC7450

According to the compability Netbackup 7.1 doesn't support Windows 2012 either. Netbackup 7.6 client for Windows 2012R2 client has a seperate full installation that was provided in 7.6.0.3

Not possible.

Client can be  'point patch' (release update) version higher than master, not major or minor release.
