Our Master server a Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter server running NetBackup version 7.7.1

I am attempting to restore a .vmdk file using FlashBackup-Windows and Restore from Virtual Machine Backup

Every time I try to start the restore using…  Alternate Location…

This is the error that I am getting

It does not matter what I choose, the restore application closes and I am unable to complete the restore.  I have tried this several times and continue to get the same error.

Why are you using FlashBackup policy type and not VMware policy type?

I am with Marianne on that one .. shouldn't be using Flashbackup-Windows any more...

My first thought is whether you opened the BAR GUI using "run as administrator"

Hi Marianne and Mark,

Thanks for your responses.

Why Flash Backup, as this Backup is very Old and was took using Flash Backup.

Was it actually a VCB backup?

Did you open the BAR GUI using "Run as adminstrator"?

Problem is that NBU 7.7 no longer supports FlashBackup for Vmware backups. Vmware policy type was also introduced long long time ago. I personally think that you are experiencing problems because of the FlashBackup policy type. You may want to log a Support call with Veritas for assistance.

Hi Marriane,

Sorry my mistake, the conversion only is for Policies.

So my concern is: I have 6 months of Flash Backups which do not work on 7.7, how can i recover them or restore them? Any suggesstions? or Solutions?

Regards,

Kernal

Hi Marianne,

the customer was wrong, the backup were taken as using VMware backup policy not flash.

The screen was crashing becuase the customer was using the Old BAR GUI of 7.6.4 he had.

Used the Java BAR GUI

The Client was not visisable in the list

The client was tried to be added but still not showing in list

Tried adding it with FQDN, IP and were issue, not showing

The Veritas engineer confirmed that this is the Bug with 7.7.1 and 7.7.2, this will get fixed in the new release 7.7.3

Added Reg Key in the Master Server Regedit to Disable Reverse lookup

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\BACKUP\disableIPResolution ("disableIPResolution"=dword:00000000)

Technote: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000097784

After that the Client was added in the list and it appeared.

Restore was made on it

Successfull

Note: Mark this as Solution if this make sense to you.
