I mounted a remote NAS share which contains disk backup sets on a Linux server running NetBackup 6.5.5 and encountered couple of issues while importing all disk backup images. Below is the log file created during phase 1 import. Since phase 1 import didnt work, phase 2 import obviously didnt work either. server hostnames are replaced with ***.
Import phase 1 started Wed 14 Oct 2015 02:51:13 AM EDT
02:51:13 INF - Create DB information for path /Quantum-Windows-Remote.
02:51:13 INF - Initiation of bpdm process to phase 1 import path /Quantum-Windows-Remote was successful.
02:51:17 ERR - Orphaned image fragment ***_1430535608_C1_F53, skipping.
02:51:17 ERR - Orphaned image fragment ***_1441411206_C1_F47, skipping.

02:51:17 ERR - Orphaned image fragment ***_1441422003_C1_F88_R1, skipping.
02:51:17 INF - Recreating image information for client ***, policy Quantum_***_DSFXMPie_I, and schedule Weekday_diff_1month, done on 09/14/2015 23:00:02.
02:51:18 INF - Found existing image information for client ***, policy Quantum_***_FOMPRD_G, and schedule Weekly_Full_1month, done on 09/21/2015 01:36:47.
02:51:18 ERR - Orphaned image fragment ***_1442813851_C1_F11, skipping.
02:51:18 INF - Creation of database information for import of path /Quantum-Windows-Remote complete.
Now there is no way import can complete in seconds as the remote NAS has TB's worth of backup files and is many hops away. I had then tried importing from more number of remote NAS shares with similar result. One more log from that exercise is pasted below.
Import phase 1 started Wed 14 Oct 2015 03:27:46 AM EDT
03:27:46 INF - Create DB information for path /Quantum-Windows2-Remote/.
03:27:46 INF - Initiation of bpdm process to phase 1 import path /Quantum-Windows2-Remote/ was successful.
03:27:47 ERR - Orphaned image fragment ***_1444194619_C1_F2, skipping.
03:27:47 INF - No importable NetBackup disk images found in path /Quantum-Windows2-Remote/.
In above case it has not done anything after it skipped Orphaned image fragment. What is an Orphaned image fragment and why am I not able to import my disk backup image files which are not Orphaned?
Note: I tried locally(/tmp/import) copying disk backup image files and both phase 1 and phase 2 import completed without any issues.
Appreciate your help in advance.

A orphan image fragment is a part of an backup
You should at least have **_1430535608_C1_F1 thru **_1430535608_C1_F53
You can't import just F53 alone, you need all files that makes up the backup image.

An orphaned fragment means that the rest of fragments in the series are missing.
For example in this one: ***_1430535608_C1_F53 fragments 1-52 are missing.

Hello,
you mentioned that import from a local storage was successful, which sound strange for me. When you copy the whole backup image including all its fragments from this local storage to a NAS storage 1:1 , then import should be successful, too.
BTW, NetBackup 6.5.x is unsupported today, I recommend using 7.x versions even if original images were created by NetBackup 6.5.x
