Had a system crash on 6/17 after patching, needed to restore some files.
Run a daily FULL VMWARE backup - I can see all the vmdk files in Virtual machine restore.
When I change Restore type to Normal backups, I see a tree view of the directories.
on 6/15 full backup of /opt/app/oracle has 8 sub directories
on 6/16 full backup of /opt/app/oracle only shows 1 directory.
fstab:
/dev/oraclevg/oracle /opt/app ext4 defaults 1 2
Has anyone else seen FULL VM backups of ext4 Linux 6 missing directories and files?

Unfortunately, the media server has almost no log directories, and logging set to 0, so no logs are available from the backup.
The backup completed with no errors, so this is somewhat worrying - since it creates the impression that some unknown quantity of my VMware backups have random directories missing...

"on 6/15 full backup of /opt/app/oracle has 8 sub directories
on 6/16 full backup of /opt/app/oracle only shows 1 directory."
as you can see the Directoreis in 6/15 backups and not in 6/16 backup, my guess those directories are deleted from the servers by the time of snapshot on 6/16.
how certain are you to believe that those directories are avaliable in server at the time of Snapshot?

I am pretty sure, since this is an oracle db server.
I do not think the data base can continue to run if you remove the /opt/app/oracle sub-directories.
We are working on getting a test VM built and re-creating it.
