LiveUpdate error 77

gkman

Hi everyone.

I am trying to update my clients to the new client software using live update. (all different versions of windows servers- clients are not older than 7.5)

at first I have tried doing so with file share (over SMB), but then I discovered this doesn't work. I then installed IIS on my master server and followed this guide to configure it: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH211022

I extracted to the liveupdate folder the contents of the NetBackup_7.7.2_Win.zip archive.

doesn't work, keep getting error 77. (I also tried to extract just the content of PC_CInt- no luck there either)

There are separate LiveUpdate packages on the same MyVeritas site where the NBU Windows software was downloaded from.

See if this helps: http://nayabrasools.blogspot.co.za/2013_07_01_archive.html?m=1 Solution:- NetBackup LiveUpdate apparently only checks for the "LiveUpdateHost.hst" file in the C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup folder on your LiveUpdate server no matter if NetBackup is installed on said server or not. NetBackup is not required to be installed on your LiveUpdate server, but apparently, it still looks for this file in that path. In our case, we used a separate media server as the LiveUpdate server. NetBackup is still installed on the D: drive of the media server, so to fix the issue, I just created the same folder structure \Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup on the C: drive and copied the file from D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup to the newly created C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup folder. That fixed the first issue in bold above. The 2nd issue in bold resulted from not having the upgrade packages unzipped correctly in the source folder on my LiveUpdate server. The documentation states that you need to unzip the files into the source folder, but it doesn't state that ALL files from ALL packages need to be unzipped into the SAME folder. I unzipped each one individually, which created a subfolder under the source folder, and the files resided under each subfolder. I had to move ALL of the files from each package's subfolder to the same source folder. For example, if you have a source folder called C:\LiveUpdate and you unzip the package files for 32bit and 64bit Windows clients, you might end up with a "C:\LiveUpdate\32bit-client" folder and "C:\LiveUpdate\64bit-client" folder, with files from each package in their respective subfolders. You have to move the files under "32bit-client" to directly under C:\LiveUpdate, and the same for the files under "64bit-client" folder.

Thanks for the reply.

I am affraid this is not the issue since netbackup is installed on c: and the file C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\LiveUpdateHost.hst already exists in the correct path.

what else can it be?

Think I have seen this error if the liveupdate folder under is missing, which fits with this message:

Warning nbliveup (pid=30416) Directory C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\Logs\LiveUpdate doesn't exist, cannot copy the installation logs

that folder exists too.

Any log files created in LiveUpdate folder?

Not too sure, but the log folder may also be needed on the clients.

Then it could be a permission issue as the liveupdate process does not seem to regonize the .../logs/LiveUpdate folder, the security event log would contain indicatiosn if that is the problem.

Another thing that can give status 77 is certificate issue on the web server

all users have read permissions. does the liveupdate process require more than that? to what user I need to add permissions?

also, I use http protocol so it doesn't use a certificate.

I have seen once - that you can upgrade the host to 7.5.0.7 first, only then run the LiveUpdate again to get to 7.7.x. It should have worked, but sometimes it just require a latest patch version (for example: 7.5.0.7, 7.6.0.4, 7.6.1.2 ) to start with.

Think Marianne is on to something with the ../logs/LiveUpdate folder on the clients, as this is where LiveUpdate seems to copy the installationsfiles to.

well, apparently this line:

06/14/2016 09:48:00 - Warning nbliveup (pid=30416) Directory C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\Logs\LiveUpdate doesn't exist, cannot copy the installation logs

refers to the client and not the master server.

I created the folder on the client and attached the log from the last failed liveupdate.

from what I gather the liveupdate is searching for files called liveupdate_3.3.0.101_english_livetri.zip, minitri.flg and etc.

these files don't exist simply because they are not included in the NetBackup_7.7.2_Win.zip file.

where do I get the correct files for the liveupdate?

boy I feel like such an idiot. before I created this topic I was looking for a live update package, but only now I realized that the LU in the NetBackup_7.7.2_LU_2of2.tar.gz package file name stands for LiveUpdate.

at first I disregarded it as being just another OS I wasen't familiar with.

anyway, I extracted the contents of NetBackup_7.7.2_LU_2of2.tar.gz to my liveupdate directory and it works

sorry for the newbie mistake. it should be written though in one of the many guides on veritas site..

thanks for the help.

There is normally a README file with explanation of download files. Glad you managed to solve this. This is how we learn and be able to assist others with similar issues....

the readme file only contains the md5 and sha1 hash's
