Recently, tape drive is encountered with below error:

Feb 28 13:46:30 backup-1 tldcd[20634]: [ID 150976 daemon.error] TLD(0) key = 0x2, asc = 0x3b, ascq = 0x11, MEDIUM MAGAZINE NOT ACCESSIBLE
Feb 28 13:46:30 backup-1 tldcd[20634]: [ID 719803 daemon.error] TLD(0) Move_medium error

The cartridge density is:

Density:              hcart3 - 1/2 Inch Cartridge 3

And the tape density that are used to store Backups is:

media type:            1/2" cartridge tape 3 (24)

The netbackup version used is 6.0MP5.

Please let me know for any more informatio and help me out with this error

e.g. tape magazines in Overland libraries can be physically removed & replaced - is it similar & maybe not seated correctly?

Push comes to shove, you could also try resetting (power-cycling) your library when it's quiet.

Could only find a very old T/N which mentions similar errors & codes when a tape magazine is "missing" in a "Superloader":

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH23961

Does the robtest command in the above show the same sort of output?

The error is coming directly from the robot.

MEDIUM MAGAZINE NOT ACCESSIBLE indicates that the robot cannot access the magazine.
Try to manually reset the magazine. Else, log a call with your hardware vendor.

You can use robtest to test and verify hardware functionality:

Robtest command does not show similar errors.

However when checking in bptm logs, below error is reported:

13:36:40.080 [15037] <2> send_operation_error: Decoded status = 5 from 1

Below are the tape details:

# ./vmquery -m J309L3

barcode:               AJJ309L3

robot type:            TLD - Tape Library DLT (8)

Can you please suggest if the tape drive is down because of the tapes that are inserted in it?

tapes that are inserted in it?"

So you have a drive down issue also? Could be that the tape is jammed or you have other hardware issues.

Hi andy,

No such hardware errors found.

Errors are related to tape drive as of I know:

Hi Marianne,

Can you please let me know the cmd to safely reset the magazine?

Andy_Welburn

referencing the T/N Marianne quoted earlier (below).

Use the robtest command to test functionality i.e. try moving tapes around the library - from slots, to drives to ports, to slots etc - this may give more indication as to what or where the issue is. In all probability you may need to log a call with your hardware support (again as suggested by Marianne).

Using robtest will actually test the library outside of NetBackup so will remove that as a possible cause (which is doubtful anyway) but remember it will interfere with NetBackups operations (tape loads, unloads, inventory etc) so remember not to leave it "logged in".

***EDIT***

Additionally, if you do move tapes around with robtest, either ensure the tapes are "robtest-ed" back to their original slots or perform an update inventory via NetBackup, otherwise you'll end up with more issues than what you started with as NB fails to find tapes in their expected slots!

No cmd - if the robot has a removable magazine, please pull it out and push it back. Wait for physical robot initialization to complete before doing robtest.

Please confirm that robtest commands to mount and dismount media is actually working.
