MSSQL Backup Failure - Error in VxBSAGetPolicyInfo_Ex: 3.

 Dear Team,

 The MSSQL backup failure, 

 Veritas Netbackup 6.5.1
 Master Server - Unix HP UX B 11.11
 Media Server  - Unix HP UX B 11.11
 Client  - Windows2003

 During our auto backup, The MSSQL backup has been partially successfull, It has skipped the one of the instace during the backup. I have listed the error logs below.

Batch = D:\Program Files\VERITAS\awi\scripts\cedlp_full_online_database_backup.bch, Op# = 3
INF - Using backup image LCCDB116.MSSQL7.LCCDB134\CEDLP.db.msdb.~.7.001of001.20090617232813..C
INF - backup database "msdb" to VIRTUAL_DEVICE='VNBU0-8468-6388-1245295693' with stats = 10, blocksize = 65536, maxtransfersize = 4194304, buffercount = 2
INF - Number of stripes: 1, Number of buffers per stripe 2.
INF - Created VDI object for SQL Server instance <CEDLP>. Connection timeout is <300> seconds.
INF - Thread has been closed for stripe #0
INF - OPERATION #3 of batch D:\Program Files\VERITAS\awi\scripts\cedlp_full_online_database_backup.bch SUCCEEDED with STATUS 0 (0 is normal). Elapsed time = 106(10) seconds
ERR - Error in VxBSAGetPolicyInfo_Ex: 3.
CONTINUATION: - System detected error, operation aborted.
USER - Policy MSSQL_W2K_DB_CEDLP_01 has been selected to back up SQL Server. Verify that it exists and is in an active state.
INF - Results of executing <D:\Program Files\VERITAS\awi\scripts\cedlp_full_online_database_backup.bch>:
<3> operations succeeded. <1> operations failed.
INF - The following object(s) were not backed up successfully.

what will be the root cause for this issue? Please revert back for any quries, Thanks.

On your master server

windows

Open a command prompt, browse to

c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\

nbpemreq -updatepolicies


Unix

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbpemreq -updatepolicies


If this doesn't help, restart netbackup

USER - Policy MSSQL_W2K_DB_CEDLP_01 has been selected to back up SQL Server. Verify that it exists and is in an active state.


Can you post your .bch fiile contents & also the policy attributes?

 Thank you for the quick response. Yes, It's in Active state. Below, I have mentioned the policy attributes and .bch file contents.


Atrributes:

Policy type - MS-SQL-Server
Active - Is selected
Policy Storage unit - R01_10180_LCCNS052_LCCNS060
Policy Volume Pool - Offsite
Limit jobs per policy - 1
Job Priority - 0
Media owner - None.

.bch file contents:

OPERATION BACKUP
DATABASE $ALL
SQLHOST "LCCDB134"
SQLINSTANCE "CEDLP"
NBSERVER "LCCNS063"
MAXTRANSFERSIZE 6
BLOCKSIZE 7

 I am getting this issue very rarely. 
 
 This issue was happened on 06/17/2009, After that we didn't receive any issues on it. But, I want to know the root cause for this issue.

i believe that the policy was deactivated and then activated (either somebody was testing or playing). Netbackup was not able to update its worklist and you ran a backup, which failed
